Letter From The Editor

To Our Loyal Readers,

As I write this, the U.S. is in quarantine due to the COVID-19 virus. I’m in New York City, the epicenter of it all, healthy, grateful, and very proud of our doctors, nurses, and first responders, and thinking about all of YOU.

To be honest, we weren’t sure if there would be a Spring 2020 issue of American Teen.It didn’t feel “right” to publish when so many people were sick and scared, and schools worldwide were closed. This was slated to be our young Broadway issue, and Broadway has also shut down—no one is sure when it, and all of America, will “re-open.” It’s a very stressful time for everyone, including you—yes, you—the future of this country, you fearless, sensitive leader.
Ultimately, to crave some semblance of normalcy, Ayal, Gergana, and I decided to move ahead with this issue to provide you with an escape; mentally, from a world that was turned upside-down seemingly overnight. With that being said, please know you are never alone, and your feelings of fear, anxiety, and frustration are valid and should be acknowledged. We’re here for you and send you and your loved ones warm, loving, healing vibes as we fight this virus together, from New York to LA, and all over the world. Because that’s what Americans do—support on anotherBe strong, stay positive, and continue to do good and wear your heart on your sleeve.

With very best wishes,

Rachel

P.S. We treated this issue with a “business as usual” vibe, to give your mind a mental health break from the stress-inducing news. Thus, articles about prom dresses and nail salons may seem odd. Hang onto this issue, and when things calm down, be sure to support the actors and businesses featured in this issue. We’re all a team—virtually, and in spirit.
