Beauty Products that Give Back

By Lana D’Amico

Women are absolutely beautiful each and every day, but two on-the-rise beauty lines celebrate International Women’s Day—which was March 8th—and more! C’est Moi is a clean, toxic-free brand that thoughtfully formulates gentle products specifically for young, delicate skin like yours. Founded by Jennifer Saul, this company gave 20 percent of its online sales for the month of March to Step Up Women’s Network, a national nonprofit organization that connects professional women with underserved teen girls through mentoring, networking and advancement. They do charity work like this throughout the year.

Also, The Better Skin Company— creators of the awesome Better Skin Mirakle Cream (genius in a jar!)— recently gave 100 percent of sales of this popular cream to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

We caught up with the entrepreneurs behind these brands to learn more about how they are carving out a more beautiful life for young women everywhere.

“During the month of March, we were excited to donate 20 percent of our sales to Step Up! As a symbol for youth, Step Up furthers our mission to empower girls through both education and self-discovery,” says Jennifer Saul of C’est Moi. “Step Up programs allow for an enriching environment to create trusting relationships between women and girls, that inspire personal growth for girls all across the United States.”

Saul feels that as women, it has never been easy for us to always be proud of what we see in the mirror or to find our voice. She believes that we show our strengths and support through storytelling, listening, and relating to one another. “What if we all worked every day to be our best selves by explicitly uplifting ourselves through uplifting others? I truly believe that this kind of beauty is what reveals an immeasurable power in all of us to be and do good things that make an impact!” Saul exclaims. “’It’s Me,’ is what this means, and it was created as a symbol for youth who believes in curiosity, self-expression, self-love, discovery, and that beauty should be good for you.” You can find this brand at Target, Riley Rose, Amazon, and Cestmoi.com.

lipstickThe Better Skin Company was founded in 2015 by the dynamic duo of Natalya Rachkova and Murphy D. Bishop, II. In search of the American dream, Natalya and her family emigrated from The Republic of Uzbekistan to Seattle, Washington. Rachkova explains that they selected the ACLU because “it is important to us that all people are afforded the rights and liberties guaranteed by the constitution. We want to further ensure that everyone has the same opportunity to fulfill their dreams and live their lives.” Their ultra popular “Mirakle Cream” is a one- stop, skin-loving, problem-solving, all-purpose cream that is totally genius in a jar.

“The cream was born from necessity over 20 years ago. In Uzbekistan, I did not have access to creams with such beautiful, effective ingredients. My clients were asking me what they should use so I created it from scratch in my kitchen. The same people still use it today!” she says excitedly. Rachkova was happy to work with the ACLU because they work hard to protect the rights and liberties of every person in the country. “As an immigrant who is now a proud citizen, I want others to have the same opportunities I had. I think it is very important to give back and I want others to fell supported, loved and hopeful that their dreams will come true! The best thing you can do for women is to simply listen. Oftentimes, we are dismissed, and our great ideas are not heard. If we are heard, great things will happen as will have the opportunity to bring our dreams to life!”
