Letter From Publisher

What’s new?

Hola readers and welcome to the Spring 2018 edition of LaTeen. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support. Amazingly, it’s been 14 years since some middle schoolers and I got this hairbrained idea to start a magazine for Hispanic teenagers. Today. many of those kids are married with children. Thus, as our founders have grown over time, so too must our publication. It’s with this growth mindset that I have decided to change the name of our magazine from LaTEEN to American Teen.

Many reasons lay behind this decision but chiefly we don’t want to be ethnically pigeonholed by our name. It just felt like we were stuck with assumptions people made about our magazine solely because of the name. Like ‘Oh, you only do articles about Latinos’ or ‘Isn’t your magazine in Spanish?’ Interestingly, for several years we have ceased to publish exclusively ‘Latino’ content because our readers don’t want to read only about Latinos. Our readers are smart, sassy, American Teens who want to read about other American teenagers, young entrepreneurs, and those making a difference. It’s in this spirit of more diverse content and more diverse readership that we are changing our name.

Under our new moniker our dedication to quality, educational content remains vigilant and our devotion to our readers remains our editorial mission. In this issue, you’ll find tons of career advice, an important article about party safety, celeb profiles, and more.

As owner of the magazine I hope to help spread this message of hope by publishing a magazine that embodies the message of empowerment through education.

Regards,
